2019 marks the 10th anniversary of Weibo’s development. In the age of the Internet, it is a miracle that, as a product, Weibo has become even stronger after having survived for 10 years.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a great pleasure to meet you in Vancouver. I meet many old friends today. We used to meet quite often in Beijing, but now we meet here again after having traveled half-way across the globe. Then I would like to thank the Weibo International Business Unit for its invitation, which shifts our online activities to this offline gathering. In my opinion, today’s event is more like a meeting of netizens.

This is my third visit to Vancouver. The reason for my first visit to Vancouver was because I watched a program which described Vancouver as being gentle and kind like jade. Due to such a description, Vancouver immediately captured my heart. A city as gentle and kind as jade aroused my imagination, so I visited Vancouver. The reason for my second visit to Vancouver was because the Weibo Media Business Unit led a team to Vancouver to have in-depth exchanges and communication with local media friends and university teachers. If I acquired the perceptual knowledge of Vancouver in my first visit, then I had in-depth exchanges with Vancouver people and developed a good understanding of the local culture and tourism in Vancouver in my second visit. And I gained a better understanding of Vancouver from the history, past, present and future perspectives. This is my third visit to Vancouver. The first stop of our IP brand activity is held in Vancouver, which will be a significant event “Meet the World” of our Weibo International Business Unit next year. I also hope that more cities, media and partners will join us in telling the stories of cities and countries well with the help of Weibo. 

2019 marks the 10th anniversary of Weibo’s development. In the age of the Internet, it is a miracle that, as a product, Weibo has become even stronger after having survived for 10 years.  In summary, I think that the miracle of Weibo lies in the following three fundamentals:

Fundamental I: Weibo may not be the platform with the largest number of users, but it must be the one with the strongest penetration. At present, 170,000 government agencies, government dignitaries and celebrities are active Weibo users, and 30,000 domestic and foreign media and over 3 million brand enterprises have registered for Weibo. When encountering hotspot issues and emergency events, responding to public opinions and releasing official information, people’s first choice would be Weibo.

Fundamental II: Weibo may not be the platform that users visit for the longest time, but it must be the one with the strongest vitality. On the Weibo platform, the stars, the fans, the netizens from all walks of life and across all sections of society and the professional key opinion leaders realize the collision and integration of their minds. On such a platform, Weibo has become a unique platform that enables ordinary people to become stars and Internet celebrities.

Fundamental III: Weibo may not be the most profitable platform for business, but it must be the most influential platform in the world. As we all know, the prime ministers of Canada, UK and India have created Weibo accounts and interacted with Weibo users and Chinese netizens.  Up to now, 4,000 government agencies, international organizations, government dignitaries and celebrities have created Weibo accounts and interacted with netizens.

In my opinion, today’s Weibo event has a rich agenda. It can be seen that the Weibo International Business Unit has made elaborate agenda setting in advance. We also hope that we can draw more inspirations from the collision of our minds in today’s activities. Today’s speech of the International Business Unit will bring us the gift packages of resources and the big news on how to skillfully make the best of Weibo.  In conclusion, I wish this meeting a complete success. I express my heartfelt thanks to CAIFU Group which has worked hard to organize this event in a short time.  I wish you all a very happy Christmas!
